New professor maps the activity of the human brain
Diego Vidaurre is a new professor of Computational Neuroscience at the Department of Clinical Medicine, where he is developing computer models that will enable us to learn more about the human brain.
In his research, Prof. Vidaurre uses computer models to map the brain’s activity across behavioural and clinical states, and examines how this activity shapes our perceptive ability, and, more generally, our relationship with the world around us.
Since the way the brain works is very different from person to person, these models are adapted to each individual, which enables the professor to study how one person’s brain activity differs from others with the ultimate goal of developing a more personalised medicine.
Diego Vidaurre builds bridges between theoretical neuroscience and clinical practice, and hopes in this way to make the research relevant to patients.
“I aim to translate the individual models for brain activity into actual clinical practice, so that we can get one step closer to the goal of achieving more personalised medicine,” says the new professor.
