Professor Peter Drummond from Murdoch University, Perth, Western Australia is currently visiting the Danish Pain Research Center (DPRC) at Aarhus University Hospital, and he will give a guest talk at the monthly NeuroCampus Aarhus / DNC Seminar, entitled:
Involvement of the sympathetic nervous system in complex regional pain syndrome
Abstract:
In complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), pain and other sensory disturbances may spread from the initial site of injury to other parts of the limb and body, and are often so severe that they lead to profound disability. Patients typically describe a burning sensation that is aggravated by movement, the limb being touched, changes in ambient temperature, emotional arousal, and sometimes even loud or unexpected noises. In this seminar Professor Drummond will review evidence of involvement of the sympathetic nervous system in CRPS, and will discuss new ideas about how the sympathetic and pain processing systems might interact in this devastating condition.
