Leif Østergaard appointed member of the Danish Council for Independent Research

Professor Leif Østergaard, head of CFIN, has been appointed new member of the Danish Council for Independent Research/Medical Sciences from 1 January 2016 to 31 December 2019.

The Danish Council for Independent Research | Medical Sciences supports specific research activities based on the initiatives of researchers, and gives scientific advice within the scientific areas of the Council.

The Council covers all aspects of both basic scientific-, clinical- and socio-medical research in relation to human health and disease.

The Council allocates research grants to researchers working within these areas. Furthermore, the Council provides scientific advice in relation to health-scientific issues. Advice is given according to request or on the Council's own initiative.

Furthermore, the Council contributes to strengthening the communication and use of research results and participates in international cooperation.

The Danish Council for Independent Research annually publishes a call inviting researchers to apply for funding for research activities within the scientific areas of the Council. The call includes information about requirements and guidelines for applications to The Danish Council for Independent Research | Medical Sciences.

The Council's 18 members are acknowledged researchers appointed by the Minister for Science, Innovation and Higher Education in their own personal capacity.
