Morten Overgaard appointed Visiting Professor at Lund University
Morten Storm Overgaard, CFIN, has been appointed Visiting Professor at the Joint Faculties of Humanities and Theology at Lund University until 2028.
Morten Overgaard's research investigates the nature of consciousness through combined experimental, theoretical, and neurorehabilitation approaches. He studies how conscious experience relates to brain organization, particularly in patients recovering from neurological disorders, and use these insights to develop principled frameworks for evaluating whether artificial systems could, in principle, possess subjective experience.
The main focus for the Visiting Professorship at Lund University will be on developing conceptual and empirical tools for understanding whether consciousness can be multiply realized across different physical substrates. By integrating philosophical analysis with empirical work on neurorehabilitation, Morten Overgaard aims to derive general principles relevant to assessing the possibility of consciousness in artificial systems.
