    Abstract:

Increased chemosensory responsiveness is the cardinal symptom of several olfactory diseases, but also the cardinal aim for experts working with olfactory and gustatory cues as their trade. Both innate sensitivity and chemosensory training help can explain the different traits of smell- and taste experts, and distinguish them from novices within this field. How the peripheral and central sensory modulations occur following training, and how hedonic modulation of sensory input may help explain the divergence between pleasure and disease will be the main topics of this presentation.
