Making sense of neuronal vulnerability in Parkinson's disease.

    Abstract:
The origin of neuronal loss underlying the wide spectrum of Parkinson's disease symptoms remains a mystery. Intriguingly, the various neuronal populations most at risk appear to have some common characteristics related to their axonal connectivity. We hypothesize that these could potentially explain why such neurons are most at risk to both environmental and genetic triggers of the disease.
